The Basics Checkpoint

3 Challenges using only the commands of Basics and the Tracks it builds on. There are no hints here: the checklist is the goal. Passing the Checkpoint completes the Track, even before you have played every Lesson.

Your first case file, Agent: put the recipes on record, and keep the scraps out of it.

Your recipes folder has two recipes, and a backup copy of each that your editor made, ending in .bak. Make the folder a repository and make git ignore the backups. Then commit everything else in one commit, and keep the backups in the folder.

Goal

  • HEAD is on branch main
  • Branch main is at the goal's commit
  • The history of main matches the goal
  • The working tree matches the goal
  • The recipes folder is a repository, on main
  • main has one commit
  • The commit has pancakes.txt
  • The commit has soup.txt
  • The commit leaves pancakes.txt.bak out
  • git status lists nothing: the backups are ignored, and everything else is committed
